Most things in your home were made by a machine, in a factory, by no one in particular. Ours weren't.
Every Agasti quilt and cushion begins in Jaipur, India — a city with centuries of textile tradition running through its streets, its workshops, and the hands of the craftspeople who call it home.
Why it matters
These techniques are ancient. They are also endangered. As mass production makes handmade craft harder to sustain, the artisans who carry these skills are fewer with every generation.
At Agasti, we believe the answer isn't to preserve craft behind glass — it's to put it in your home, on your bed, on your sofa. To make it part of everyday life. Because the best way to keep something alive is to keep using it.
Our quilts and cushions are 100% handmade by master artisans. Each piece showcases expert craftsmanship, with intricate designs hand-carved onto wooden blocks, then printed with rich, vibrant dyes to create unique patterns. Experience the timeless artistry of hand-block printing with our exquisite, handcrafted collection.
STEP ONE
The Drawing
It begins with a pencil and paper. Every motif is drawn entirely by hand — each line, curve and detail considered and crafted by an artisan before anything else happens. There are no computers, no templates, no shortcuts. Just a skilled hand translating imagination into pattern.
STEP TWO
The Block
The hand drawn motif is then transferred onto wood and carved by hand, one careful line at a time. Teak blocks are chiselled and shaped with tools that haven't changed in centuries. It's slow, precise work that can take days for a single block. The result is a stamp that carries the fingerprint of the person who made it — literally unrepeatable.
STEP THREE
The Colour
Before a single print is made, the colours are mixed by hand. This is where the palette of each collection comes to life — pigments blended by eye, adjusted by feel, refined through years of experience. No formula, no machine. Just an artisan who knows instinctively when the colour is right. It's why our colours have a depth and richness you won't find in mass produced textiles.
STEP FOUR
The Print
The carved block is pressed into the hand mixed ink and stamped onto fabric, repeat by repeat. A single quilt can take days to print. The subtle variations you might notice — a line a little deeper, a repeat a fraction off — are not imperfections. They are proof of a human hand.
STEP FIVE
The Finishing
Once printed, each piece is carefully finished by hand. Our quilts are filled with a generous layer of hand fluffed cotton — where most hand block quilts use only a thin layer of surgical cotton, we've made a deliberate choice to do more, ensuring every Agasti quilt is breathable, warm and made to be truly lived in. Our cushions are finished with the same care and attention, every seam and detail considered. Each piece — quilt or cushion — is then hand stitched by our skilled quilters with the kind of care and patience that simply cannot be rushed.
